There is a funky little add-on for Excel that I happen to be quite fond of, mostly because of the ease with which you can modify Salesforce data. It's called the Sforce Connector for Excel. You can download it here http://sforce.sourceforge.net/excel/downloads.htm Please note : in order to use this product you must have Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007 installed, as well as (very important) the Microsoft Office toolkit, the link to which you can find in the link provided above. I used this tool extensively back in 2007 when we were initially migrating data into Salesforce. Two years later I find myself going back to it to do some data cleaning. Back then we used Office 2003 and although I had a few teething problems with getting Connector to work, it eventually worked like clockwork and helped me do tons of stuff. This month I tried to install it on my Office 2007 and I have to stay I went in for the task with the sinking feeling that Connector was not supported on this platform, so when I started getting the first error messages, I quickly gave up. Having found the courage to make a further attempt, this morning I tried to understand what the problem was. I tried installing it on my home computer and lo and behold, it worked first time round. On my work computer I was getting a myriad of messages so I did what is apparently the best solution in the case of the Connector. Remove everything and start again. So I removed the add-on from Excel options, I removed the toolbar, and added the xla again, and know what? Yep, you guessed, it worked. How brilliant am I ! In conclusion, if you're looking at a solution to your Sforce Connector for Excel installation dilemmas, look no further! Remove and re-install. Keep doing this until the bloomin' add-on starts working :) At least I can confirm that Sforce Connector for Excel indeed works on Microsoft Office 2007. Now off to do some more data cleaning ! |
